The mission of Minneapolis MOSAIC is to celebrate the richness and diversity of the arts and cultures of Minneapolis through a summer-long celebration beginning in June. The success of Minneapolis MOSAIC is realized by accomplishing four goals:
Minneapolis MOSAIC's first five years were very successful. Each year more than 100 culturally diverse events have been a part of the celebrations in June, July and August.
Letter from the Mayor
Mosaic Leadership
Dear Friends:
Today, Minneapolis is a mosaic of many people—each part, interesting and colorful in itself, each part contributing to a richer, more vibrant, intricately textured whole. This mosaic of people, their culture and art, is one of the things that makes Minneapolis the great city that it is.
For the last seven years we gathered in downtown Minneapolis on the Saturday in June to celebrate Minneapolis’s diverse arts and cultural scene and to kick-off Minneapolis MOSAIC, a festival of incredible cultural events taking place all summer in Minneapolis.
There aren’t many cities that can boast such a robust arts and cultural scene as we can. On June 20th alone you could pick among these cultural offerings in Minneapolis: a world premiere of a Tony Kushner play, an exhibition on Russian postage stamps, a dance performance at the Lake Harriet rose garden, a Swedish Midsommar celebration, an Indonesian music and dance performance, an arts festival on the Riverfront, a concert in the Sculpture Garden, a French solstice celebration, a new play festival, a showcase of new hip-hop dance— just to name a few!
Minneapolis MOSAIC is our once-a-year-chance to shout about all that we have we have here and to take it all in. It's also a chance for us to have a little fun, tell our stories and learn more about each other—and the ways we preserve our ethnic traditions and celebrate our distinctiveness. Check out the events you’d like to attend. Hope to see you downtown on Saturday, June 6 as we kick-off another great mosaic of events!
